The Heroes of Nentir Vale
The Forlorn Hope is a band of knights formed nearly 400 years ago after BattleofHarkenwold inspired the noble families to organize a standing military force. They created the Forlorn Hope and assigned the war-hero and knight Antony “Firebrand” Caldera to act as warden over the knights. As recognition of his status as a hero and of his undying dedication to the protection of the Vale, Antony was granted a fiefdom west of Harken Forest. He would name his settlement Springdale, and would build a mighty fortress surrounding a town of his followers.
Along with the fiefdom he was granted the status of a noble and in turn took the surname Firebrand to signify the new era for his people, his family and the Nentir Vale. Antony Firebrand is regarded as one of the greatest heroes of the Vale and his clan has spent the last 300 or so years upholding the overwhelming burden their name carries.
The Forlorn Hope have heeded the call to arms many times in the 290 years since they were brought together. Most knights’ lineage can be drawn back through the ranks since their founding. They take great pride in their work and in their duty.
